I just went to my 1st combine with my oldest boy
this weekend in mobile. WOW ! I follow recruiting
religously, but actually seeing it & how serious it is.... man. Coach Les, Cooper, & the rest of the staff I take my hat off to you.

What grade is your son and what were you and your son hoping to accomplish at the combine?

It would help if you could elaborate a little on this.

Is your son an athlete or did he just come along for the ride? Either way, I dont like where this is headed.

What does that combine really accomplish. It's what you do on the field. Some kids always test well but are not very good in competition. Besides college coaches aren't allowed to be there. so what's the point?

Maybe he's just saying that sifting through all the athlete's is tough, but who knows.

Maybe so. I really wanted to know the purpose of those combines though

I think SPARQ supposed purpose is to get players on the recruiting radar. Of course they sell things as well.

Mike Hass had to walk on at Oregon State despite having a great high school career. Hass won the Fred Biletnikoff Award and was named an AP, Walter Camp and ESPN First-team All-American. He was invited to the 81st annual East-West Shrine Game recording four receptions for 107 yards, including the game-winning touchdown for the West.
At the 2006 NFL Combine, Hass (unofficially) ran an 4.61 second 40-yard dash, a relatively slow time for a wide receiver, but was reportedly very impressive during the pass catching drills. Although some pre-draft analysis had Hass projected as a third or fourth round pick, he was selected in the sixth round (171st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints

He's in 10th grade - just trying to get him some looks.

my son did the one here in zachary, different company though.
they push the fact that they help get his name out there. it gives them an online resume. for the most part he did it for the experience and to see where he stood among his position and class.
i'll say it was both interesting and a pain. i got suckered into listening to an infomercial about advocare for 30 minutes.

That's funny. Always an angle. How did your son do? Was it worth it? At least you didn't HAVE to buy the advocare

Spencer Ware, athlete, junior, Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton
Ware is an amazing athlete. He looks like a linebacker or thick strong safety but plays quarterback for the Vikings. He is effective both through the air and on the ground, he had nearly 3,000 total yards and just under 30 touchdowns in 2008. Ware proved how much of an athlete he is by posting the top SPARQ score Saturday with a 115.86. His 38-foot, 6-inch power ball toss and 37 ½ inch vertical proves he has strength and power in both his upper and lower body.
Although Ware most likely won't play quarterback at the next level, there is no doubt he will be an all-around weapon for any college program. Ware is being recruited by schools such as Wisconsin, West Virginia, North Carolina State, Cincinnati, Duke and of course the home-state Buckeyes.

Sometimes they translate to the field.

the results arent posted yet but he was fairly satisfied with his #'s besides his vertical. i have no idea how they graded the 1on1 drills so i'm anxious to see that.

i think so, he enjoyed it. it was an all day thing for $75. it could've been a lot worse.
he has some recruiting company called NCSA calling him now. no clue if it's a scam or not. i need to start researching i guess.
