What you got?

I've been seeing some cool-looking trees with white blooms around my neighborhood lately. I think they may be pear trees, but I'm not sure. (any ideas?)

I'm a fan of keeping it simple with a live oak.

I have one with pink and one with white flowers, no idea what they are but they're pretty. My neighbor across the street has a huge live oak in his front yard that's awesome. Also have a big cypress in the front.

I'm most likely going to plant a live oak to replace the dying one that I cut down, but I'm liking whatever these trees are that have the white flowers. They would contrast nicely with my dark brick house. I'd put the flowering tree closer to the house and the live oak closer to the street.

Or at least, that's the thought process I'm at right now.

I'll ask my neighbor what kind of tree I have with white flowers, he'll know more than me.

you might want to look at the different shade trees with a fast growth. some people hate the weeping willow tree but i think they look great in my back yard.

also, DO NOT plant a magnolia tree or any tree that their roots really spread in your front yard, house or driveway.

a former neighbor's driveway was in ruins due to tree roots.

Thanks. When it stops pouring, I'm going to take a photo of the tree I like and post it on here.

I've got river birches that line my drive way. The are a good tree to plant if you need a tree quick. These are about 10 years old and 30' tall.

Also got 450 of every variety of oak on the planet in my yare if somebody wants to come dig one and take it home.

do they look like this.

Bradford Pear

That and lopped off stubby crepe myrtles are everywhere. Why people insist on making their crepe myrtles look like shite I will never know.

I planted a drake elm this fall and am going to go get a silver maple and a couple of river birches in a couple of weeks.

I think the dogwood trees are awesome. Plated one in the front and back yard of my parents house when we moved in there 15 years ago

Not a pic of theirs, but close

Thanks for finding those pics, guys. They both look like trees I've been seeing in people's yards. I think some may be dogwood and some may be pear trees. I do like the idea of having pears. I don't like that they are supposedly prone to disease.

I've got two of these in my front yard, and I did trim them to get them uniform at the top. They're right up next to the house so I dont want them to get too big.

One thing to trim and shape and keep off of your structures...another to just go to the branch junctions and lop them off.

To each his own.

PS...bradford pears are strictly ornamental..not fruit bearing.

Dangit. I just read about that right after I posed my love for pears.

I like this too - I think it's a saucer magnolia although I've heard it called a purple magnolia or purple tulip
