Free Agent Tender & Contract Extension Thread

Saints extended restricted free agent tenders to LG Carl Nicks, SS Roman Harper, and TE David Thomas.
Fox Sports' Adam Caplan reports Nicks received a first-round tender. One of the best guards in the NFL, Nicks will remain restricted as just a three-year player. Harper, on the other hand, is headed to the open market, where he'll draw plenty of interest, as a five-year veteran. Thomas is a good bet to re-sign as Jimmy Graham's backup.
Saints extended restricted free agent tenders to RB Pierre Thomas, DT Remi Ayodele, DT Jeff Charleston, and K Garrett Hartley.
Thomas' agent confirms that Thomas' offer was for $1.8524 million, which suggests a second-round tender. Thomas, Ayodele, and Charleston have put in at least four years, so they're likely to end up as unrestricted free agents. Hartley, a three-year player, will return to New Orleans in 2011.

no one really knows how things will shakeout in regard to free agency status/years until a new CBA.

This whole RFA tender thing seems to be a waste of time.
No one can sign FA's till a new CBA is in place. There is zero chance under a new CBA these 4 and 5 year guys will be restricted free agents.
The only way I see the RFA thing mattering is if the players get there way and decertify, preventing the lockout from happening

"Decertification" in this instance will almost certainly be viewed by the court as a sham used by the NFLPA to create leverage. In the long-run, if this lasts, a lockout will occur.
Despite this, I'm optimistic the parties will resolve their issues beforehand.

not to hijack the thread but I disagree. Worked in 87, will probably work now. Owners wont argue that it's a sham either, they will argue to NLRB, as they already have that the Players haven't bargained in good faith. Could work but I doubt it

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Saints have agreed to terms with K Garrett Hartley on a five-year contract extension.
Hartley was scheduled to hit restricted free agency for the first time. Instead, the Saints will lock him up after he rebounded from a sketchy start to nail 15 of his final 16 field-goal attempts in 2010. Despite the occasional Hartley hiccup, coach Sean Payton has been a firm believer in his kicker's strong and accurate leg.
