To me that snapshot was intended to encapsulated the craziness of coming home from a war zone... to return stateside to an environment where they have no comprehension or even echo of teh existence of what he and the other soldiers had gone through
Good call. I think it also showed how the main character couldn't make sense of the "order" of ordinary life.
I will also say the hallway fight scene in Inception with JGL was pretty epic as well.

There are some great ones mentioned in this thread. I like the street scene in the pouring rain in "Road to Perdition" as well.
