There are a lot of references they make in The Wedding Singer that don't match the date. They generalized the 80's into one year, for the most part.
And I think in Back to the Future, when Marty dresses up like Darth Vader to freak his dad (in the past) out, he uses a hair dryer that hadn't been invented yet.
