Sorry if this has been covered. Tried a search, but didnt see anything. Anyone know if/when they are going to put up 31 tribute like the old box? I don't see it, but it could just be my seats.

It'll never be ready in time.

All jokes aside, I agree. Never noticed it until this thread mentioned to be honest. I remember exactly where I was when I heard he passed. Great guy and a great player.

His number is not retired. The B of S would have to vote to retire his number for his number to be honored at the Box now.

Taking nothing away from the man who served his country and died in combat, but Wally should be honored in the manor. I know its not the same but Wally was a Tiger in every way. I have friends that knew him and grew up with him and this is not right.

Couldn't agree more. I haven't noticed it either, in the old box they had Skip, MacDonald, and Wally up, they have the other 2 at the new one, haven't seen that #31...

If you honestly think that stats are the trump for all awards then I feel sorry for you. Wally Pontiff was definitely going to be successful at the next level, but tragically he wasn't given the chance. He was a fan favorite, clutch hitter, someone you always wanted on your team.
Yeah he only batted over .344 for his career and was on the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team for 3 consecutive years, but it's a good story that Tiger fans will understand at a deeper level than anyone else.

Pontiff's number needs to be retired.

Can't they just make the 31 a different color than the retired numbers?
