first get rid of the old gas,syphon it out. Then put marine stabil at the ratio recommended and use NON-ETHANOL fuel. A double dose of the recommended ratio of techron would help too. Seafoam is good but it doesn't work as well if you let it sit in the tank for months instead of burning the fuel because of it's chemical makeup.Merc and Yammy both market a decarb but both are basically techron and techron is a lot cheaper.

is the engine carbed or fuel injected?

I second this process.
I do this with my gas if it has sat for longer than 2 months without a stabilizer in it.

I just did it this weekend. Syphoned the gas out. and put seafoam in tank with a full tank of ETHANOL FREE fuel. This weekend I will be
running the whole tank through the boat. Start easy. Idle and put around for 15-20 minutes. The start to open her up. Run her for a couple hours.
Almost like a mini break in.

It may not be totally necessary, but i like to baby my 1999 year 115 mariner.
