Rayville High School has a new head football coach

Lent Bursey was named as the new head forball coach and athletic director. He will officially begin on February 22 when the schools next six weeks begins.
Bursey was chosen over the other two finalists: Bobby Breen a Richwood assistant and Lane Welch an assistant from Farmerville.
I know Fair Park, Bursey's old school, finished 1-9 last year. Their only win came against class AAA Washington. I hope my Alma mater didn't make the wrong decision.
Can anyone tell me about the two finalists he beat out for the job. I just have a feeling Rayville is going to suffer from this hire and I don't feel that Bursey will be there long.
On a related topic, Bo Barton was named the head coach at Caldwell Parish High School. I'm sure he looks forward to turning that program around and kicking Rayville's arse as often as possible.

Bobby Breen led West Monroe to their 1st ever state championship on 1993. He was a tough, tough QB and set the chamionship game record for carries in a game that I'm sure still remains. Probably West Monroe's best until Paul Turner recently. Don't know much about his coaching career.
Lane Welch went to West Monroe and might not even be 30-years-old yet.m. I havne't talked to him in several years, but I can't believe he is a good enough communicator to be a head coach.

Thanks Carl. I thought the names sounded familiar. Breen more so than Welch.
Didn't Bobby have a brother that left WM and went to Riverfield Academy around 96 or 97? His name may have been Eddie??

I was hoping Farmerville's head coach would have been offered the job. He seems like he's gonna be a good one.

Yeah, Eddie. Used to be a good friend of mine. He was class of'97, not sure if he "graduated." Also, Zach Green from West Monroe was over there around the same time.

Lol...I guess I didn't realize Zach was from WM. I ran into him not too long ago at Jaimie's Field of Dreams. Hadn't seen him since the days of The Derrick in Rayville. That place would be packed on Friday and Saturday nights.
Saw Eddie get his arse beat there once. Lol

They did. Should've chosen Bobby. He would've implemented West Monroe's program at Rayville. Would have instantly become a 3A power, if they bought into the system.
BTW, the record Carl was talking about was 39 carries.

My gut instinct tells me that this was affirmative action at play. Surely Bursey wasn't hired on his level of success at Fair Park...because success there looked to be minimal at best.

Ah the Derrick. What an awesome roast beef poboy huh?

Actually it was afirmative action nor a mistake. Although Bursey had a losing record, i asked alot my friends who played for him and that grew up around the school. Everyone said that his record does not reflect how good of a coach he really is. Fair Park is located in a horrible area. its a very bad school. It can not be shut down because its a historical school. so parents have the option(if they can afford it) to pull there kids and move them to better schools. This left Bursey with little to no talent. The school was very notorious for the kids that went to school there. But Bursey changed that and had a very high graduation rate among his athletes. He kept them out of trouble. He also runs offensive spread guy, but his focus is on defense and fundamentals( 2 areas that Coach Barton struggle at). So it wasnt a bad choice. I met Breen the day they introduced the finalist and asked alot of questions. He didnt have that belief that rayville could be a 3A power and thats what hurt him.
