I literally know nothing about his recruitment. so I have no opinion.

My main reason in posting this was to point out how Mandel was writing a story about SABAN's answer to a question about oversigning, and he has to rehash this Porter situation again, after it was over-played so much by the media to begin with, and then doesn't even have the courtesy to point out how the player in question is back at LSU. It seems that the players are far more forgiving of these kinds of mistakes than the reporters.

Of course, the reporters always talk out of both sides of their mouth. First, they can take the moral high ground and talk about how evil the coaches are and how they play with the poor childrens' emotions and all that jazz. It makes them look sensitive or something.

But then, look at the amount of coverage the schools that they think demonstrate "high morals" get during the regular season. They get ZERO. Hell, good luck finding stories about your program if you're 5-4 and fighting for a postseason spot. All they talk about are the 4 to 6 teams at the top of the rankings. And these are invariably the schools that practice the evil of oversigning. Otherwise, they would be limiting themselves in filling out their roster and would be criticized for not having enough talent.

I'm expecting Gary Danielson to make a comment about this phenomenon of oversigning during a future CBS broadcast. In fact, I'm predicting he will during an LSU game. I'm also betting he uses the word "reprehensible" in the same sentence as Les Miles.

Read Mandels's article and know that that is as much research Gary D will put into this subject before antagonizing Les Miles in front of a national audience.

Not that the facts will change anything but this is what SI had to contribute:

Andy Staples of SI.com recently added up the numbers and found that over the past five years Alabama has signed an average of 26.6 players per class. Those with a higher average over the same time period were Troy (32.8), Ole Miss (29), Auburn (28.8), Mississippi State (27.6), Kansas State (27.4), Temple (27.2), Southern Miss (27), Arkansas (26.8) and Kentucky (26.8).

All but three of those schools are within easy driving distance with five in the Southeastern Conference. If you're wondering about LSU, the Tigers averaged 26.2, and UAB was at 25.8 - so every program in the state has oversigned.

So in the (5) years Saban has been at Alabama - he has signed [b].4 more players that Lsu and less players than Troy, Ole miss, Auburn, Miss st. Kansas St. Temple, Southern Miss, Arkansas, and Kentucky and yet he is the the problem.

Porter went to Oregon and he could not pass the medical exam. It would have been better for him to gray shirt and give his injury time to heal while not losing a year of eligibility. Les was looking out for Porter but as a kid he could not see it that way. Now given a year later Porter now sees Les gave him the best advice as did Oregon.
