re: Stewart Mandel AGAIN badmouthing Les on oversigning

The Mandel philosophy-- "Why let the facts get in the way of a good story."

How is that relevant to my point at all? LSU was over the limit because the NCAA misled LSU and Brad Wing. The timing of Bates' signing is completely irrelevent

LSU jacked up the Wing/Porter situation. You always prepare for potential problems, & them not getting out in front of this one months before with a frank, honest discussion is a tail that can only be pinned on one donkey: Les Miles.
He honestly dropped the ball there. Which is strange, because between Sam Nader & the Eligibility Center (formerly known as the NCAA Clearinghouse), LSU has a pretty good relationship & track record in getting kids in quickly & finding out what they need.
While Les does take responsibility for his program, there are several layers of administrative personnel between the head coach of an SEC school and the prosepective student athlete when it comes to qualifying admisssions.
There were multiple people who slipped up in both those cases and it fellin Les' lap. Same thing has happened at a hundred other schools in the last ten years. Unfortunate but predictable, given the tons of redtape that folks have to sort through in this process.

It's the old philosophy of "sling enough shite against the wall and eventually some of it might stick." Then he could say he had a scoop. What a sad little man Mandel must be, and what a sad little life of frustration he must lead.
the media hates LSU

My main reason in posting this was to point out how Mandel was writing a story about SABAN's answer to a question about oversigning, and he has to rehash this Porter situation again, after it was over-played so much by the media to begin with, and then doesn't even have the courtesy to point out how the player in question is back at LSU. It seems that the players are far more forgiving of these kinds of mistakes than the reporters.
Of course, the reporters always talk out of both sides of their mouth. First, they can take the moral high ground and talk about how evil the coaches are and how they play with the poor childrens' emotions and all that jazz. It makes them look sensitive or something.
But then, look at the amount of coverage the schools that they think demonstrate "high morals" get during the regular season. They get ZERO. Hell, good luck finding stories about your program if you're 5-4 and fighting for a postseason spot. All they talk about are the 4 to 6 teams at the top of the rankings. And these are invariably the schools that practice the evil of oversigning. Otherwise, they would be limiting themselves in filling out their roster and would be criticized for not having enough talent.

If Les did Porter so wrong why is the kid back?
I don't know the truth but seems like Porter is okay with LSU

I'm expecting Gary Danielson to make a comment about this phenomenon of oversigning during a future CBS broadcast. In fact, I'm predicting he will during an LSU game. I'm also betting he uses the word "reprehensible" in the same sentence as Les Miles.
Read Mandels's article and know that that is as much research Gary D will put into this subject before antagonizing Les Miles in front of a national audience.

Porter went to Oregon and he could not pass the medical exam. It would have been better for him to gray shirt and give his injury time to heal while not losing a year of eligibility. Les was looking out for Porter but as a kid he could not see it that way. Now given a year later Porter now sees Les gave him the best advice as did Oregon. The advice was you are not completely healed from your injury.

Not that the facts will change anything but this is what SI had to contribute:
"On face value it's a simple assumption to make, that the practice of oversigning in college football is wrong and a clear attempt to get around the rules mandating that 25 players can be added to the roster each year and only 85 may be on scholarship at a given time.
That's the latest rallying cry against University of Alabama coach Nick Saban, who has become the prominent face of the issue because he may be better at jam-packing his roster than anyone.
Only Saban hasn't violated any rules and no one's been able to prove that he's even been callous except when asked about it during press conferences.
Andy Staples of SI.com recently added up the numbers and found that over the past five years Alabama has signed an average of 26.6 players per class. Those with a higher average over the same time period were Troy (32.8), Ole Miss (29), Auburn (28.8), Mississippi State (27.6), Kansas State (27.4), Temple (27.2), Southern Miss (27), Arkansas (26.8) and Kentucky (26.8).
All but three of those schools are within easy driving distance with five in the Southeastern Conference. If you're wondering about LSU, the Tigers averaged 26.2, and UAB was at 25.8 - so every program in the state has oversigned.
Ah, but Saban forces players out, critics claim, or rather assume."
So in the (5) years Saban has been at Alabama - he has signed [b].4 more players that Lsu and less players than Troy, Ole miss, Auburn, Miss st. Kansas St. Temple, Southern Miss, Arkansas, and Kentucky and yet he is the the problem.

Yes, I saw that Staples' article as well (which is ALSO on SI's web site so Mandel knew good and well all about it).
The problem is that now that we are in the offseason, these guys have to validate their jobs. So they make up stories about recruiting around NSD, and I'm sure we'll have some stories about how evil the BCS arrangement is because people are so dirty that they want to make money.

I don't of course like Bama or Saban, but he is not doing anything against the rules. Nor is Les Miles Mandel is a idiot. The coaches know they will not qaulify everyone. Les happend to qaulify everyone almost and he gets beat up for it nationaly by a jerk off. I think I will email him and tell him that I'm sure it will upset him.

Wow. Where do you get that info?
