Florida won 2 straight NC's and they still don't really give a shite about basketball there. Football rules. I think LSU is in the same situation.

Absolutely not.

It will always be a football school.

Basketball could easily overtake baseball with some consistent success, though.

For the record Florida as a university and fan base seem to care a heck of a lot more about basketball than LSU can even dream of right now. We used to be a very good basketball program but we are not now and haven't been really for the last 20 years with the rare exception of a couple or 3 years scattered in that time.

If an 80's like basketball program meets an early 90's like football program it could happen. Not very likely though but anything could happen. I'm sure not too many people in the 70's thought the baseball program could amount to anything.

maybe so, but the O'Connell Center had thousands of empty seats last night for a two top 25 teams playing. UF is a football school first just like the rest of the SEC outside of Kentucky and maybe Tennessee.

If we get good again fans will come, i remember when we took down #1 Arizona and the place was crazy, Brady got on the mic at the end of the game and thanked that fans.
The same arguement could have been made at LSU being a football school in the 90s. My first LSU I attended was in the 7th grade and Tiger stadium wasn't even 3/4 full, and we ended winning a bowl game that year.
LSU fans come to games when they are winning.

we used to pack the deaf dome when dale brown was here as coach. It used to sell out for some games.

Those were the days.

But even then FOOTBAll was KING!

If the team wins people will come......If we win big, and have big games in the PMAC people will definitely come.

Who wants to go watch LSU play Nicholls/Alcorn St/etc? I certainly don't, it's a snore fest, if we're good we drum the hell out of them proving zip, and if we lose....well..nuff said.

no

it will embrace it occasionally but never care about basketball the way schools in the Big East/ACC do

That's your reference? There's been better crowds since then.

I'm just giving a personal reference from growing up, it was a good game, also comparing to football at that time that couldn't sell out and things turned around. It won't ever be basketball #1 over football, but it can be a good atmosphere. LSU has that capability to have fans that are interested in all the sports.
