HEIGHT:6-2

BATS: R THROWS: R
Catcher
Tyler Ross (Fr.)*
Jordy Snikeris (Jr.)
Jackson Slaid (Fr.)
A year ago when Paul Mainieri was looking through his magic crystal ball he had two completely different players in mind to take over for Micah Gibbs. The two players included Wes Luquette and Edmond Sparks. It would sound outlandish that LSU would lose all three catchers from the 2010 team, possibly it’s greatest all around catcher in Micah Gibbs, and hopes to keep the same beat behind the plate. Enter Tyler Ross, a 6’2 220 brick wall behind the plate, high school all-american catcher and 46th round pick of the Phillies in the MLB draft. Many tabbed Ross going going extremely early in the draft (rounds 4-10) had he not shown his strong commitment to LSU last spring. At this point in Tyler’s college career his hitting will have to do some catch up on his already strong defense and quality pop time. Ross does posses the raw power to send any pitch left over the plate deep in the gaps. Jordy Snikieris a JUCO transfer from Texas will add much needed depth and challenge Ross for the starting spot. Jordy, who at the moment has the better swing and collegiate experience and will rotate with Ross every few games if he does not win the starting spot. Jackson Slaid a freshman from Sibley, La. may redshirt this season based on how well the two players in front of him perform.

Sounds weird but I love when you do this. How do you have so much info?

Through practices, scrimmages, games, and other's perspective on "the player". It's always important to get a second hand point of view because there could be something they point out that I may not be seeing off the bat. Finally I gather all the information I have and focus on their strengths and maybe areas they may need to improve on.

This thread always means baseball season is right around the corner.
Thanks for the info Adam, as you mentioned, this is extremely helpful for us out-of-staters.

This guy sounds pretty good, but what about Grant Dozar? I know Dozar played catcher more than a few times for Gibbs last season, and I thought he did a pretty good job offensively and defensively.

Grant's going to be the utility man. Back up catcher, 1B, 2B, 3B.He's going get ALOT of at-bats this year being the first guy off the bench and one of the few left handed bats this year.

I haven't followed Luquette since his exit from the team. I do know that he is no longer enrolled at LSU, probably playing at a JUCO college this spring.
