He told the guy to take it off several times and the guy refused.
He told him twice, and didn't mention why either time. Furthermore, part of the dress code is to wear a tie. Best case scenario, the manager should have said, "Take off the tie because of our sponsorship. I'll let you not wear a tie only this time. If it happens again, you'll be suspended."
He does that, then the story doesn't exist. But he doesn't because he's a douchebag idiot.

f the guy is the GM of a dealership large enough to get 250K sponsorship from the Bears he is most likely a pretty good business man and knows how to deal with employees.
That's a huge reach. He's a fricking car salesman.

Thats just insubordintaion IMO.
There are varying degrees to all "violations", and if this guy is as good a manager as you think he is, then he would be capable of realizing that. Thing is, he's not. I highly doubt that he's capable of critical or even higher thought.

Do you know what a guy like him makes?

Im not defending the guy unconditionally. No doubt he could have made a judgement error but neither of us were there so what really went down is unknown.

I dont think you understand what kind of thinking and knowledge is involved in running a dealership.
