i agree about this being a cool idea for a thread but
quote:

The Beauty That Surrounds Us..

is a little gay for the out door board, how about changing the title to
"Cool scenery pictures"

A few shots from the weekend, again more wildlife than scenery, but whatever.

Yellow Crowned Night Heron

Alligator Snapping Turtle. This was actually a pair that was mating. They were easily 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 feet long from head to tail.

Mendenhall Lake had a thin layer of ice yesterday morning. The lake gets cold winds coming off the icefield and usually starts to freeze before any other lake. It's been in the low 30's at my house, probably upper 20s there. Lake isn't far away but we have a lot of microclimates

Mendenhall Glacier. Lake water level dropping as the winter freeze sets in on the icefield.

Warming cabin on the lake, for cross country skiers and skaters

Another view of the cabin. Nugget falls across the Lake is around 300' high. Its the meltwater of the Nugget Glacier further up in the valley.
