Took this by the hatchery, two juvenile eagles having a fight.

Pretty surprising how quickly they get up to speed and can recover in the air.
Juveniles are awkward as hell (up to 5 years old) and typically larger than adults. Look more like golden eagles than bald eagles.

I could look at your pictures all day. I can't wait until I get the chance to spend some time in Alaska.

One day I'll put up some of my pictures from my hikes in Norway and Iceland. And some landscapes from Africa and the Philippines. Someone remind me

It's a whole different world, but each region of the state is so different, there are many many experiences you can have. If you get the chance to come, give yourself lots of time and take in as much as you can of the different regions and towns. Just a wonderful place to be IMO.
Some more I took today. Yacht, Statter harbor.
Moraine ecology trail

That is exactly how Iceland is. It's nuts. Within an hour drive you can see volcanos, the Atlantic, deserts, geothermic pools, snow capped mountains, glaciers and tropical areas.

O
Love to see those. Many similarities between S.E. Alaska and both of those landscapes.

Yep, the area I live is a temperate rainforest. But 90 miles north or 40 miles east you get about 1/4 of the precipitation. We have micro-climates, and incredible diverse geography.

I always just called them Fox squirrels. I know there are different subspecies though so not really sure. There was at least one on every hole out there. Must be loaded with them in the surrounding woods. Beautiful and huge.

Mendenhall Lake today. Strange, looks like I saw some color in some of the cottonwood trees today already.

Went to see if there were any bears tonight and found a sow and cubs on this gorgeous 66 degree day, but the cubs were stressed so we kept our distance and didn't encroach on their fishing.
Did see a bald eagle over this sockeye stream.
Sockeye salmon
Low tide downtown.
