I believe if TU was to build a 35-50K outdoor stadium on campus, the program would be worthwhile again. They had very respectable attendance at Tulane Stadium and many were season ticket holders. I am not a rabid TU fan, but I think that would be great.

Truth... and this is supposedly in the works! The Tulane admin "smart guys" have finally realized the financial impact football can have on a university. Last I heard, they want to build a minimum capacity stadium with a retractable roof, on-campus stadium. They would have at least a student fanbase if the stadium was on-campus.

In order for me to hate Tulane, it would mean that I cared about them, which I don't because they're irrelevant.
Back in the day, even before my Boomer day, Tulane was something of a football power. And the games between the rich school and the poor school were filled with all kinds of extra meaning, because until Dietzel days, LSU wasn't all that much of a force to be reckoned with, middle-tier SEC, etc. The rivalry heated up in the late 1960s when Bobby Duhon qb'd for Tulane, and by the time they broke LSU's 25 win streak against them, it was good. But the programs went their separate ways - and we get to today, when Tulane, once a proud-enough power in the SEC, self-destructed and was reduced to a non-entity in the current reckoning of big time football programs. The rivalry days were great and always intensely fun.

Tulane is a good school, not a great school, better than the State of ala. as is the City of New Orleans!

Why do they hate LSU so much.

Because Tulane sucks, LSU is everything they wished Tulane would be. I have family who are die hard Tulane fans, they hate LSU with a passion. IN fact, some Tulane fans get more satisfaction out of LSU losing then Tulane winning...kinda pathetic.

The majority of Tulane students and alums under the age of 35-40 either don't care about LSU at all or are fans.

They also think that LSU breaks the rules to get where they are ...

That's pretty freaking amusing coming from fans of a school that dropped its men's basketball program after a point-shaving and NCAA violations scandal.

Please stop...I'm laughing so hard that my side hurts.

TRUE STORY:

A tulane Cheerleader skipped cheering for a Tulane game this year to go up to Baton Rouge and watch a LSU game(hint:it was a big one).

I think that's the typical Tulane student in a nutshell. Pulls for Tulane when there's nothing else to do but when LSU has a high profile game this Saturday, you can bet they'll be on campus with their purple and gold. (Although what does it say about the apathy of Tulane that their own cheerleaders would rather miss a Tulane game than miss an LSU game?)

Probably true. There are several guys in my men's club that I play basketball with who are Tulane alumni but are all Tiger fans (although two of them went to grad school at LSU.)

Yeah, most of the younger alums and the current students are either from Louisiana and Tiger fans (like myself) or they're from out of state and don't really worry about LSU. It's not like Tulane's campus is full of LSU haters.

I live right by Tulane's campus and know some of the kids in grad programs over there. I can confidently say that very few of them give a shite about any of their athletic teams because they are so bad these days (besides baseball, which has a following). Sad. It is definitely the older people who tend to make comments about my LSU yard flag when they're walking to Audubon Park, etc. It's nice to taunt them back with a 'nice arse raping by Tulsa last week' comment

The rivalry has become a thing of the past as younger generations don't care, graduate, and head back northeast (where 90% of them come from)

Younger kids really seem to not care much about LSU, at least from what I can tell

No - MOST toolame students are not from Louisiana, but rather rich kids from the northeast. In NO WAY does toolame represent New Orleans. Any ignorant toolame fans (in fact, ALL toolame fans are ignorant) who kid themselves thinking toolame is "our" team are just plain stupid and uninformed.

I pull for Tulane, Tulane is one of a handful of schools who doesn't go the prep school route or JUCO route, and for that I commend them. The freshmen running back, Orleans Darkwa, is a special talent who scored like a 29 on the ACT. I know people on here could give a shite if a kid even goes to class but I commend the "true" student-athlete. Matt Forte was another example and a great ambassador for Tulane. I have an easier time pulling for them than I do for tech which has about 15 juco players or a team like Troy with half of their team made up that way. Of course, when you go to the Troy website they only list the highschool next to the player. I also think they have some good local talent committed to them, who care about the classroom as well. That's why I also pull for the service academies no matter who they play.

Depends on your age. I'm 37 and I remember growing up Hating Tulane and Ole Miss. Over the years I couldn't care less about Tulane. Ole Miss can still suck a dick.

Everybody says that Tulane has such superior academics to LSU. But I have never in my life met a Tulane grad that absolutely left me thinking, "Jesus this guy is smart!"

I have talked to people that graduated from Rice, one of the Ive League Schools (can't remember), and a few other schools where it was absolutely evident that the person was just freaking smart. Never got that with Tulane grads.

ETA: Loyola (right next door to Tulane) has left me with that impression (of a person well taught).
