Man, I remember it like it was yesterday. My cousin in Walnut Ridge is still upset over how obnoxious I was after the Tigers spanked the Piggies.

After the game when Mac and Broyles shook hands Broyles said, "You just cost us a national championship."

Mac replied, "I knew what the stakes were."

My high school football coach was the anchor of the Arkansas defense that year.

My uncle, David McCormick, was the tackle that Labruzzo ran behind on four consecutive plays TWICE for the two Tiger scores. He was named the Lineman of the game and parlayed the game into a postseason all-star game and fairly high draft pick by the 49ers...played for the Saints in their first season before a knee injury ended his career. He was 6'6" and over 250, a behemoth for those days. He died of a heart attack in the mid-80s at 41. Labruzzo and Pat Screen had tragic deaths as well.
Before he got sick, Coach Mac gave my aunt a painting of Labruzzo running behind Uncle David with Pat Screen in the background. Coach Mac told her that the 66 Cotton Bowl was his finest win.
The Cotton Bowl has a special place in my heart and Uncle David is one of the reasons that I have been a Tiger since I was born.....in 1966!
