I said 20,000 drunk students, I didn't even take into account the ones who sobered up before the game or got their flasks confiscated at the gate.

The tra-la-la video is pretty gay/hilarious depending upon how you look at it, but from a functionality standpoint I don't think you can improve on it.
We have designated hand signs that the Yell Leaders signal out to the student body. The people in front "pass it back" so the crowd in rows behind know what yell we are about to do. They count off 1, 2, 3 and then the yell begins, and you've got the entire crowd yelling the same thing at the same time. Not much gayness there ... it's pretty badass, really.

Our student section yells 'things' in unison without the help of hand signals, yell leaders, and what not.
