Mark Hudspeth is probably the best choice...but I'm hopeful they take Crowton off our hands

Not taking shots here, henderson, but I don't think many coaches see ULL as a good situation for a stepping stone job. In its current state, I don't see any 'up and coming' coaches taking that job. Crowton will have by far the best resume.

You can have that opinion, but it's not a very good one. Think about how many people want to be FBS head coaches and only 120 of them get to do it. Hudspeth wants the job, he wanted the ULM job but their salary pool for assistants was too low so he turned it down.

ULM pays their OC and DC $60K per year. How is ULL?

Not sure, but I think around 100

Explain to me how Hudspeth is a fiery guy who has won at the highest levels?
I'm not being an arse...I honestly know little about him other than his current job as WR Coach.

He built up D2 North Alabama to a point where Terry Bowden is underachieving there now. He was the head coach and built them into a perennial playoff team. Mullen wanted guys who were HCs on his staff and he wanted to get into the FBS so it worked out for both when MSU hired him.
ETA: He's also coached at Nicholls (when Frank Wilson was playing there), so having been there and the recruiting that MSU is doing in Louisiana now sets him up well for recruiting at ULL.

By highest levels...you're getting it wrong.
I don't mean D-1...I mean he's won at a high level in his job at Division 2 North Alabama.
66-21 record in 7 seasons...won a national championship while he was there I believe.
Offense put up points and yardage....he is capable of doing the job with better funds, resources, athletes and facilities D1 football can offer.

I don't think he won a national championship. Reached the semi-finals a few times.

I bet he tailored his resume to show only the W-L, and not offensive rankings.

Thanks for the info. It is clear that ULL is in a significantly better position than ULM.

I don't know about Hudspeth in particular, but as an up and coming coach, your first head coaching job is your most important. If you don't think you can have good success there, then you don't take it. It can make or break your career.
If Hudspeth wanted the ULM job, then maybe he would be interested in ULL. I don't know. But no up and coming coach would take a job that he feels won't advance his career. Who knows, if a guy comes in and turns around ULL, he will be a lock for a better job.

I think that they are willing to spend more money, are more centrally located in the state, and Lafayette being a better place than Monroe should set them up well in comparison with ULM if they make the right hire.
I think potentially they could become the solid number two program in the state, with the right hire. Bob Toledo is lazy and geographically Lafayette is a better place to recruit to than Ruston or Monroe.

That's what they need. They need someone to make it an attractive stepping stone job. It will keep them having good candidates interested in the future.

My exact thoughts...
I'd rather a revolving door of exciting guys who can win than a Bustle like hire who will plateau.
You win enough...you eventually become a destination IMO. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Apparently a lot of coaches see this program as one that can be successful, there's a ton of Louisiana talent that can be had after LSU picks the cream of the crop. Hudspeth could come in, win the Sun Belt a time or two and move on. I'd be perfectly fine with that.

UL becomes my 2nd favorite team if they take GC.

The most interesting thing about this thread is the fact that GC is interviewing. Says a lot about his future at LSU, IMO.
Now, please please please, let them hire him (sorry ULL fans).
