The team who is in the bowl gets 30% of the pay. The other 70% is divided amongst the 12 teams in the SEC. We will get 30% plus 1/12 of the remaining 70%. And with all the teams that are bowl eligible this year, everyone will get a decent amount of money.

Yea I gotcha now
I'm on my phone so a little slow, I didn't see Indian's post which would make since if we go to the capital one over cotton, that we would get a little more money b/c we bringing in more money.
I think it should be like that, where you get rewarded for a better bowl than everyone getting a straight up equal 13th portion.

I am just looking at matchups and would rather see LSU vs Michigan St than OU.

what do you think about Texas A&M-LSU...

While Sunday's tiebreaker win lacked the drama, politicking and flyovers of the 2008 edition, the BCS standings reflected a stunning lack of respect for Texas A&M and its six-game winning streak.
A&M holds victories this month over Oklahoma and Nebraska. Now the Aggies will have an almost-certain bid to the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic as a consolation prize.

Pretty sure it's actually split 14 ways. 12 for each SEC school, 1 for the league office, and 1 additional part for the participant team. So LSU would get 1/7th of the total payout, or 1/14th more of the payout than the rest of the teams in the conference.

I'm with ya...I would be drooling over either LSU-Nebraska or LSU-TexasA&M
there would certainly be no shortage of excitement and fanfare for either of those games.

For those of you who say that the payout does not matter...I disagree.
Lets say the rest of the SEC accumulates $10 million in bowl payouts. Wouldn't LSU get more money if due to LSU's bowl birth, SEC is paid $4 million instead of $3 million.
(4 + 10)/13=$1.0769 million
(3 + 10)/13=$1 million
Based on this hypo, LSU would get an extra $77,000.

SEC team goes to Cap1, regardless of whether LSU does or not.
same goes for every other SEC bowl tie-in that will be filled by an SEC team this year.

Good point. The only way my argument can be upheld is if a team declines the invitation or a 2006 South Carolina/Clemson type brawl.
