on the ball?

Just one of the 11 on the field. Is this a serious question?

free safety
the second he notices run, his job is to attack
the second he notices pass, he covers his spot and then wait for the ball to be thrown, then his job is to attack

Free Safety. Hence the name "Free" Safety. His job is to check pass then attack the ball if it's a run play unless there is a specific call given to him.

That is where PP should have been then?
He is the best athlete on the team, i understand lock down corners dont grow on trees, but to have your best athlete cover mostly one guy vs someone that can affect the whole field seems ridiculous.
i know eric berry made the swich and is just EVERYWHERE when the ball is snaped

Nope. PP7 is where he should be. We have capable FSs. Eric Reid, Craig Loston, and Brandon Taylor (when he's healthy) are our best guys at that position.

I remember reading some teams are looking at Peterson at FS in the NFL, especially because of his size.

obviously this doesn't matter now that he will be gone. But taylor being gone for the year, and hatcher being as bad as he was, doesn't it make sense to put your best athlete there? we have a good amount of corners where the liability does not seem as big. Or am i not making any sense at all

It really depends on the defense you run. A 4-3 in designed for the MLB to play the ball on running plays while the DL takes up blockers so he can be free to run. Free safety first two steps are backwards because he always plays pass first. It really all depends on the scheme your running and what type of offense the other team is running everyone has their assignment

I've always felt like PP could be a better safety than corner. That said, a good corner is worth more than a good safety.
