about 15 minutes after I got out there..6 doe walked out. I waited about 20 minutes before I decided that I'd allow my first deer to be a doe...It was cold and rainy. I was shaking nervous. I used an unfamiliar gun...... Bottom line: I missed her

At what range? What type of rifle? You said it was your first attempt at a deer, so don't take this the wrong way, but was the gun sighted in and not just bore sighted?

Just tring to confirm its human error and not equipment.

Also it happens, all you can do is get back out there and try again.

That blows... At least you'll be motivated to not miss again now.

Say Mike, arent you going on your first hunt this weekend with your buddy? If not, sorry. If so, good luck!

I think so. I'll talk to him again this week but I'm planning on it.

Is it tradition to cut off one's shirttail if they miss a deeR?

The fact that you had 6 deer within 15 minutes is a great sign, don't dwell on the negative just practice and get familiar with the rifle and learn from your mistakes. Oh and I don't know if it helps but the first deer I ever shot it helped me a ton to try to give myself confidence, I told my self "I'm about to drop this mutherf*cker in its tracks" kinda of I think I can, I think I can.

As much so as the face full of blood on your first kill.

Not to be mean, but are you SURE you missed it? A lot of times deer will take off when they are hit. Did you look for blood? Did someone more experienced than you help out to make sure you hadn't hit the deer?

Edit to add: Don't worry about missing the deer. It is better to miss than wound a deer and not be able to find it. EVERY hunter has missed a deer, if they say they haven't they have either never hunted or are a liar.

Rifle is set for 100yds I think. I am pretty sure I shot too low and/or jerked. Target was about 150yds out, maybe?

This is not mean. I DID look for blood. I had two others with me. One was very experienced and we searched for about 45 minutes. So I'm almost certain that it was missed.
