Had to happen sooner or later... Alexander was one of the few players on the team under a partially-guaranteed deal. I think the other guys were players like Mbenga who were getting decent minutes.
Him not playing at all in 7 games means that cutting him keeps the team under the cap.

No, pretty sure we still have to cut one of Mbenga or Pops by January to stay under the tax unless we take less money back in a trade.

Gives the Hornets the option of getting 2 for 1 in a trade or signing a guy like Earl Barron or a DLeague bigman to an unguaranteed contract.

Weird timing though, I wonder if they just gave up on him or something is on the horizion.
