Seeing as the first part of a motion picture event of a literary masterpiece that defined a generation is to be released a week from today - I'm counting the midnight releases - I'd like to hear your expectations for this film.

- I think this will be the perfect marraige of Yates' abilities and subject matter. I want him to hit these two out of the park. HBP (6) was a let down, but it was as much of a let down as the book was in that it was just filler.

I agree. Half Blood Prince and Order of the Phoenix were my favorite books. In fact, I'd say J.K. dropped the ball a little in the last book.

just a little on the ending (the pre-19 years later part), i thought the rest was very well done.

Agree. It's as if she was rushing to finish the end of the book. The entire begining was done with elaborite detail and the end was just, I've seen enough for a lifetime, or something along those lines. DH was one of my favorites because it seemed to have action all the way through but HBP was also an excellent book for highs and lows. Yates better not frick this movie up is all I'm going to say!

i have high hopes for these..the thing that aggravates me though, is the use/or lack of use of Dobby throughout the series. I fear his deeds in the last movie will fall kind of flat because he has been forgotten about in the movies

Ok, I may need to rethink the words I used. It was early in the morn when I wrote this.

HBP was good, but in the last third. We spent a majority of the time figuring out what a horcrux is and who the HBP is. All the while there's a whole bunch of jealousy and snogging going on. It was a good book, but it took a while to get to the amazing last third.

and a lot of who Voldemort was and how he came to be what he is..seems more than "filler" to me

I do as well. But as high as my hopes are they could come crashing down VERY fast.

This is beyond aggravating my friend. He was key in ALL the books after his intro of the second book yet his only appearance is in the second movie! I have a very bad feeling his death will be miniscule to those who don't understand nor read the book. people will just be sad because a good character died not because he loved Harry Potter. Ok my rant is over.

I was reading online about a guy who got to view it early. He didn't give much away, but he did say that splitting the book in to two movies is the best decision ever made. He said it's like watching the book on screen. Which is exactly what I was hoping for.

I have high hopes for the movie. Rereading DH now.

Words right out of my mouth. As soon as it made news that there would be two movies I was ecstatic! Now to be honest to be true to the books there would have had to be two movies per book since no less than three. IMO

Yeah, Azkaban was the last movie they got right, IMO. It's a shame, too because the books got pretty awesome with GOF onward. (Not that the first 3 weren't brilliant). The problem with splitting them all into 2 movies is that it would take too long. The cast would age too much. Have to get them out quickly.
