I've seen a few posts since yesterday that the football program is "slipping." How can anyone say this? We haven't had a losing season since the 1990s, we have a lot of recruits coming in every year, we are on of the most successful programs in this past decade! If anything, this program is going in the right direction. Of course it would look a lot better if we had a consistent offense but other than that, I don't see what the problem is. What you guys think?

Hard to argue the program as a whole is slipping. The on-field performance is absolutely mediocre, but everything else required to be a power program is still intact.

For now.

I think the program is stable. But its not the same as it was in .05-'07. It is what it is at the present time.

SEC West, SEC Championships are what people mean. We aren't exactly racking them up recently.

How many seasons removed will it take to make that an irrelevant point? Cause it'll shortly be 3 and then 4 years removed.

and you know this how?

We may not win the national title this year, but would going 10-2 and getting to a solid bowl really be that devistating and a sign we are slipping?

4 different western division programs have played in an SECCG in the last 7 years. 5 different SEC programs have won an SEC Championship in the last 7 years.

LSU has won 3 western division titles and 2 SEC Championships in the last 7 years.

These are the facts and anyone who is complaining about not enough championships is an idiot. Our conference and division are fricking competitive. We don't play in the PAC 10 or the Big 12 South where a team can be completely dominant.

Why do our fans not understand this shite? If you look at the last 7 years the conference champion has won the National Championship 5 times and one of the others finished 2nd in the country.

Finishing 5 and 3 games out of our division in the past 2 years is not "fricking competitive".

It would be one thing if we had reason to assume our team is going to improve. It's not. No ones complaining about not being "dominant". We're complaining about not even being in the freaking mix.

And if Miles finishes out his contract, you will more likely than not be able to say:

My point was there are other programs worth a damn in our division and conference.

If you want to take 2008 in which a lot of things just went fricking wrong and say our program is shot then fine.

You need to fricking mature a little bit and gain some fricking common sense if you think we are going to win every game and be in the mix every year. You can't have the coaching, money, and talent this conference has and expect a team to dominate. It just can't happen. There are 6-7 programs in our conference with fans that expect to be in the mix every year and win championships. This can't happen since there is only one.

When some team is rolling off 4-5 straight SECCG and like 8 straight divisions titles get back to me?

Yeah, and the programs worth a damn as a whole are getting the best of us.

And if you want to take 2007 in which EVERYTHING went right and say our program is where it should be then fine. We should be 3-2 in the conference right now, with a likely loss to Bama and possible loss to Arky to come.

I'm taking 2008, 2009, and 2010. If not for Tennessee pulling a Miles, we're 11-10 in the conference over the last 2.5 seasons. And you think people are complaining about not winning championships? frick, we're complaining about not resembling legitimate West contenders.

Every year? How about once post-2007?

I'm not expecting to be in the conference mix and win championships every year. I'm expecting to have a shot at a West title. I'm all for starting small.

- Over the last 2.5 seasons, LSU 8-1 is against SEC teams that finished with/currently have a losing record. That's 3-5 or worse.

- Against teams .500 or better, LSU is 4-8. That's not competing or being in the mix.

- Take out the .500 teams. Since the NC, LSU's record against SEC teams with winning/currently winning conference records is...0-7.

I know all about the fierce competition in the conference, but these numbers imply that we aren't competing with those other quality teams.

I guess I just don't understand what your reasonable expectations are for one of the top programs in the SEC might be.

LSU has finished 1st, 2nd, 1st, 4th, and 3rd in the SEC according to the final coaches poll. Our actual rankings were 5th, 3rd, 1st, 28th (extended out to additional votes), and 17th (probably a little underrated because of the bowl game conditions).

We will most likely finish 10-2 in the regular season. I wouldn't be surprised if a top 10 finish comes with this and a finish as the 2nd or 3rd highest ranked SEC team.

I think most people need to step back and realize the SEC environment. The # of SEC programs with the money, talent, and coaching to have huge success should show people that everything is earned in this conference.

I want to win the SEC Championship every year, but I know things need to just all fall into place to really go the distance in this conference.

Just realize lately an SEC Championship = National Championship to see really how difficult these accomplishments really are these days.

No one is expecting to win the SEC every year, however I don't think just going to Atlanta once every 3 years, having an offense that ranks in the top 80, and knowing how to manage a clock, is too much to ask for an "elite" program.

If we finish 11-2 this year, all of what I just said won't mean a thing, but I HIGHLY doubt we do better than 9-4 once again
