It was 1996; I was at the game sitting on the 49 yard line....on the Auburn side. My rep (an Auburn alum) had season tickets and invited me to stay the weekend and go to the game with him. The fire captivated the first 10 minutes of the game; no one was watching the game; we were all watching the fire. From our vantage point on the opposite side, it looked like the stadium was on fire. The way it looked on TV was exactly the way it looked in the stadium. The people on that side didn't even know about the fire at first, because it was behind them. When they saw and heard everyone on our side screaming and pointing, they finally looked back, saw the fire, and practically no one in the stands was watching the game!

When the fire was out, I turned my attention to the game. I was really hard to stifle myself from cheering in the midst of the Auburn crowd, but I was cheering on the inside!

This. I was in the AU student section and had no clue about the fire since it was behind us.

And it was the old women's basketball practice gym that burned. Known in AU as the "Hot Box" since it was a VERY VERY old building that did not have air conditioning.
