I don't think you can have a freshman redshirt and a medical redshirt too.

I forgot what the percentage was but you could only play a certain percent of games that were scheduled before you got hurt to be eligible but he played well over that percent.

It is 30%. We've done at least 38% of our games.

FYI, yes you can get a medical redshirt and a regular redshirt. i.e. Kirston Pittman.

Don't know, but on ESPN.com there is a blurb on OSU James Rodgers who left the game just this past Saturday....

quote:

James Rodgers left Oregon State's win over Arizona on Saturday with a knee injury that is believed to be serious, and there's a chance that he could be done for the year. As of Sunday, the team was still awaiting the results of an MRI, but if Rodgers is indeed ruled out for the remainder of 2010, he may qualify for a medical redshirt that would give him one more season of eligibility for the 2011 season.

The best he can hope for is to be granted a 6th year if he chooses to apply for one. But odds are, he wouldn't be granted it. The NCAA is much more likely to give a 6th year if a player misses 2 seasons both due to injury, not redshirting for normal reasons as a frosh.

He 't get a medical redshirt bc he already has a redshirt (and bc it's too many games into the season). The other option is to get a waiver of the 5 year rule. This would happen at the end of his collegiate eligibility, not now. Also, this is generally only issued if they have missed 2+ years due to injury (ie. Pittman) so Sam would not be a good candidate unless he were to miss another year due to injury or something

If Montgomery were a redshirt freshman instead of a true freshman he'd stand a better chance of getting that waiver down the road. But he'll never use the "redshirt" unless he isn't physically ready to play next year...

He is a redshirt FR. The only way he would really get a waiver of the 5 year rule would be if it prevents him from playing next year or another injury which we all pray doesn't happen
