Question about a coach

Is it more important for a coach to be popular with the fans and media or with his players? And I know nothing says he can't be both, but the assumption here is if he can't, which would be more important to success of the program?

players and fans.
That is what keeps your job and lets the team play at their full potential.
The media will be your best friend when you win and your worst enemy when you lose (exception Les Miles with most creative wins possible)

Perception of fans is the same perception as recruits. If your coach is perceived as an idiot by the media/fans, there's a good possibility that will carry over.

Players. If a coach loses the players it is all over. Its been proven a coach can lose a fanbase and still keep his job.

Depends. Usually I would instantly say players because the chemistry is very important. However when I think about the movie Miracle where none of the teammates really liked each other so the coach made them hate him which sort of united them. But that's only if the players don't get along

I don't think this is necessairly true, the coach and/or coaches have probably been in contact with most of the recruits two or three years so I'm sure they have a much better idea of whats going on than the majority of the idot fans who think they know more than the coaches even though all they see is what happens on Saturday's and not the other six days a week.
