Think about this for a moment.

Just about every college football pundit in the nation has excoriated our offense over the last several weeks. They ridicule Jefferson on national TV. They write screeds eviscerating our offensive performance on national websites that capture millions of readers. This recent piece from CNNSI Stewart Mandel is typical:

"More than anything, however, an offense -- even the running game -- can't be successful without a reliable quarterback. LSU hasn't had one since 2007. (You wonder where Miles' program might be today had Ryan Perrilloux not bumbled his way out of town.) It's past the point where one might expect Jefferson (10-of-22 for 75 yards and two picks against West Virginia) to progress, and the only alternative, Jarrett Lee, did not inspire confidence when given his shot two years ago. Maybe it's time to give him another."

Meanwhile, LSU fans perceive the exact same offensive deficiencies as members of the media. LSU fans, who frequently know far more about the prorgam than the so called national experts, bear witness to the grueling offensive ineptitude week after week. Yet most LSU fans aren't regular columnists on popular websites or anchors on nationally televised sports shows. The majority of LSU fans have only one bully puplit, one outlet for their emotions: Tiger Stadium. While I do not condone booing and have never done so myself, I believe a significant percentage of LSU fans believes that booing in Tiger Stadium is their most efficacious means of expressing dissatisfaction with the offensive performance.

Whether or not it is advisable is another matter.

However, I do find it entirely, grossly, and disgustingly hypocritical for members of the media to (a) skewer Jefferson and our offense in national publications and on television shows consumed by millions of people; and then SIMULTANEOUSLY (b) chastise our fan base for voicing their frustrations over the exact same issues.

I loathe it when the media becomes a paternalistic Gestapo of taste that attempts to arbitrate the way that fans behave. They rarely subject themselves to their own standards.

So go frick yourselves ESPN.

I agree. I dont understand how we as fans are being ridiculed even though, as fans we are the only ones that emotionally invested. Screw the media....they're just looking for a story.

The significant number of fans booing are absolute trash and deserve the ridicule. LSU fans deserve their reputation. I find it amusing as hell you people boo, what appears to be the QB and then bitch like hell when you are called out for it.

Actually, I was just defending the LSU fan base from needless attacks.

TOTALLY. They NEVER shut up about Les Miles and basically laugh at him all the time. They talk about how our offense is pathetic and pick against us every other game, etc. Yet, LSU fans (the ones who pay $) get sick of seeing an offense that's ranked in the 100s for total offense over the last 17 games and they're just terrible.

You have to admit its kinda amusing to watch the reaction here when its "fans" catching some flack as opposed to when its coaching.

Not that I ever cared what ESPN had to say bout anything, but just saying.

OK Les Miles...

Seriously, if there was ever a stereotype, that's a Grade A example. Which is why what Les said is absolute horseshite. And you just went right along with it and bought it, hook line and sinker. Congrats. You made it the Gospel. And in the process, didn't even realize that Miles was doing that to conveniently distract the real issue at hand: Les Miles. If he made it an issue about the fans and the players, it would be a magic trick to let him conveniently dodge questions. And it worked, I will give him that. You idiots bought right into it and now you're convinced that's what it is.

I can name one guy that was sitting next to me that makes a very nice salary, is a professional in the business world, and is a fine outstanding family man with more morality and spirituality in his pinky toe than you have altogether. And he was booing last Saturday night. The same goes for a few folks that sit around me that I actually know outside of Tiger Stadium. There goes that stereotype...

Well, in ESPN's defense, they aren't LSU fans and they never mock our own players during a game. But then again, I guess those that do aren't really fans either. No way to justify booing. As if you can direct it an one person or as if the crowd didn't applaud Jefferson mockingly when he threw the ball away.

Not defending Les Miles. In fact, don't have much faith in him. Your booing doesn't have a steering mechanism that directs it to the proper person. No one outside of yourself knows if you are booing the concessions vendors, the QB, the waterboy or the head coach.

You have dozens of other venues to vent your frustrations about the coaching situation without booing what appears to be the 18-22 year olds playing the game.

Great post. I agree completely. But that's what sports writers/newsfolk do.
