So, I've been thinking (I know, the smoke...) let's say Miles' haters win the loto and LSU melts down only winning 7 or 8 games, not competing for a Title, etc....

This seems to be the magic jumping off point for people saying he gets fired.

So boom, 8-4 he's gone.

Now, Dallas fires Wade offers Nick Saban $15M per year and full control of 'operations' or whatever it takes.

Jo Pa finally retires, Richt is fired, Urban remembers he has a family he cares about and retires again.

Alabama
Florida
Penn State
Georgia
LSU

All looking for a head coach at the same time.

When the question is asked, who would be better than Miles (legit candidates)

There are maybe three/four that get thrown out there.

Harbaugh, Petersen, Pelini, Muchchamp??? (NONE PROVEN BY THE WAY)

My question for those who think replacing Miles will be slam dunk easy is this, given the option of those Schools all going after the same pool of 'elite' coaches do you think any said 'elite' coach would choose LSU - after firing it's ALL TIME Winningest Head Coach 3 years removed from a National Title over ANY one of those other ALL TIME ELITE programs that are making a change due to natural attrition (UGA being the only possible exception but WHEN they don't even make a bowl game Richt's firing after TEN underachieving years will be considered justified), just asking?

You let your intentions be known and make a move before the others. With that being said, that is a whole lot of "ifs."

Good lord thats a whole lot of ifs. Not likely to happen, but IF it did, the only way LSU gets the best coach available is to be the first to make your intentions very clear and come off of top tier money. If we are going to replace Miles with a better coach, the $4m mark will only be a starting block for negotiations.

I never would have considered it before, but with as bad as Dallas is, I could see Nick getting an offer from them.

You can forget two things about Saban:

Going Pro.

Leaving Bama.

Neither are going to happen.

If you think Saban would pass up $5-6M a year and full control in Dallas, you are insane. He will be gone in a heartbeat. I don't think any coach anywhere would pass up that opportunity.

Penn St will hire from within. GA hires Dereck Dooley. That leaves us competing with Bama and Florida. Peterson is not going anywhere. I think, in that scenario, we get Muschamp

I don't think any coach would pass that up either. One thing to watch is Ol' Petey's success. If he does well you can et your arse Saban will have that in his mind.

Really?

You don't think Wade will get fired if Dallas Doesn't Make the Conference Championship - heck last year Jerry had said SB or bust but gave him one last chance.

Or do you not think Jerry can sell himself to Nick like he did Bill (hint >$10M per is a pretty good sales pitch)

or do you not think JoPa will retire or just die on the sidelines at some point?

or do you see UGA making it to a meaningful bowl at 0-2 in the conference already with Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech, etc... still to play? Heck, I think MSU is going to beat them.

The only one that might be a stretch is Urban Meyer suddenly retiring out of the blue without warning, oh wait...

Honestly, not big ifs at all.

WHAT IS A BIG IF is this

LSU amid the most draconian budget cuts in State/School history is NOT going to be in a position to offer anyone the kind of money it is currently under contract for.

IF LSU makes a change look for $2M to be the ceiling not the floor.

Good luck with that!

Miles isn't going anywhere. LSU has a strong enough team to win 9+ games.

Saban isn't leaving Alabama to coach at another place...ever. He will retire at Alabama.

No chance, Dooley had to sign a drastic liquidated damages clause if he left UT for UGA.

UT would not even consider hiring him with UGA looming so he is off the table.

Coaches all have egos. They all think that they can do the job that somebody else failed at. I assure you there are 100s of college coaches that think they can do a better job at LSU than Les Miles. Heck, there's 100s of people on the Rant that think that.

I'm not saying that there are that many coaches better than Miles, just that there are that many that would not shy away from this job because LSU ran of Les Miles.

You know this how?

And who would that be since you have the insider info?

I agree with the Miles comment Chicken, but I'm not sold on Saban retiring at Bama. I'll have to see it to believe it.

As for the big IF southernman, thats exactly right, but thats what it would take to get a top tier coach. If we top our offers at $2m, you can forget getting the best coach available. You couldnt get anyone on your original list for that money.

That's what Nebraska fans thought when they ran off Solich

If they get their Saban statue while he is still there, it will make it harder for him to leave.

Agreed.

Plus, Saban is still radioactive after the Miami incident. And Jerry Jones is NEVER going to give full control of the team over to anyone.
