Strauss : What’s the best thing that ever happened to you?
Byrd : Hmm, shoot, the best thing that has happened to me was waking up this morning.

Demetrius Byrd is such a wonderful guy... warm, friendly, funny, and faithful. Keep him in your prayers!

IMO DByrd should never be considered as a LSU "Great".

he is not a great, but he made one of the top 5 greatest plays in LSU's history:

was a better throw than catch.

Ok I'm not being racist because I'm black also and I kno he was never one of the most intelligent Tigers like Rudy Niswanger but that interview was straight comedy...especially knowing it was typed exactly how he said it. I actually read his responses out loud to my gf and her faces were priceless. I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face interviewing him. Oh well, he contributed well as a Tiger and I do, in fact, wish him the best with football errrr track.

God Bless this young man and for everything he did for LSU. I was not aware of his auto accident and hope he recovers. He was a great personality.

Not at all. Ball should've been on the outside shoulder but it passed right in front of the Auburn DB's face. If he had turned his head in time that was pick or at least batted away.

this kid was kind of a jerk his senior year. his attitude on the field was piss poor and he bad mouthed our qb all year. made comments about how j lee was costing him money. i know he was upset and probably didn't mean a lot of those things, but i lost a lot of respect for him at that point. he was an enabler on the team and there were several seniors in that role that year. it was sad to see what happened to him and i wish him the best. i think he is probably embarassed about making statements such as those and he has matured.

+1
and why does he have to have been an all everything to be considered a great. He was a GREAT role model and not to shabby a receiver. I'll label him as a great, not a Dorsey great but in his own ways. If you never met him, I am sure you won't agree. to each his own.

Well for me he's a great. Not too many plays will make you remember where I was. I was in San Fran at a convention, watching them game with my family in a hotel room. We went absolutely NUTTS. Byrd=

you couldnt have walked your arse out on the field and handed the football to DB any better than MF threw it. take a refresher course

I'm not saying the throw sucked but it was far from prefect. Hell look at the pic posted above, Byrd was being fricking held by the DB and still caught it with one arm.

Funny interview, kind of reminded me of Kenny Irons.
And it's a shame Byrd got in that wreck. He was a badass on the field. One of my favorites to watch. He seemed to never drop a ball. I always knew if the ball was thrown in his direction, it would be caught.

I think he was an "LSU Great."
You can see "the Catch" here in slow motion (starts at 2:36) together with some other great catches of his. Unfortunately no audio with the [VIDEO.]

Understand, I truly wish the best for the young man, and it seems from the answers he gave in the interview that his priorities and attitudes have changed since the accident. But that being said, please name one instance where he displayed the attributes considered worthy of a "GREAT Role Model" moniker? His lack of "Team" his Sr. year certainly does not qualify.
