The playcalling is limited based on what JJ can consistently do. Those are quick plays where he doesn't have to really make a read which are usually passes of 5 yards or more. The long plays only came out yesterday when we were up big and on that one drive to start the second half.
The coaches are afraid to open it up, particularly early and allow JJ to put us behind the 8-ball. This is also what Crowton's offense is. It's the same offense he's called everywhere he's been plus the added in option. He is for quick short passes. It works fine when you are playing in the MWC or WAC, but not in the SEC.
Don't expect a change from the coaching side. It won't happen. If Crowton hasn't learned from his previous 2 identical failures at his jobs at BYU and UO, then he's not going to change now.
2007 was successful largely because we forced Crowton to call majority of Jimbo's offense. Once it got mostly his offense, this is the product you can expect.
