This is just a WAG, but when Ridley says "work", I believe he's referring to the process of learning LSU's plays (i.e. homework). Anyone who cannot consistently evaluate the defense and adjust their responsibilities accordingly, won't play. That's my take. Again, disclaimer: WAG


He might not even have meant anything other than a standard bland reply - it is unfortunate that many reporters/editors tend to rework such plain articles to provoke interest and discussion.

Exactly.


Also, we don't even know what the question was that he gave that answer to.

I think it is completely jumping to conclusions to assume he's "calling out" certain players when you don't even know what the question in the interview was.
