First off, great to see LSU closing a game out like they did last night.
Secondly I thought the Defense did very well. I was also tickled to see Ridley have a bang out game on the ground and secure that ball away. He looked fantastic once he got to the outside a bit and could break some nice ones. He's a real talent.
Thirdly, I just don't see Jefferson progressing as a QB much, and still don't believe he will ever take the leadership role he needs to here. I just don't see it, but he just might be all we've got, so I don't know what we could do about that. Lee looked better in his one pass with his quick delivery, but you can't judge anything by that. I was glad to see him get some PT because we are going to need him this year, healty or an injury to JJ or not, but I sure would have liked to see more from Lee.
In any case, it was great to see LSU get it together in many areas last night and fight to the end. Made me feel better about the rest of the season.

I agree with everything you said. Now if they could figure out a way to combine the 1st half of the UNC performance with the 2nd half (or 4th qtr) of last night, they'll be set!

+1 Lee has to be given an opportunity for more playing time if JJ continues to look confused when he is in the game. I think the pressure to perform well is getting to him.It doesn't look like JJ can relax. He looks uptight all the time.

On the positive note:
I saw a lot of young talent on the field. I like the fact that the best player will see the field regardless if youre a true freshman or not.
On the negative:
I wasn't too impressed with the play calling. I mean really, how many times do you have the frick up the option before you can it from the playbook? JJ can't make his mistakes against the better SEC teams like that.
I'm glad Ridley had a break out game, that kid took a beating on here last week. I even think Herm Edwards mentioned that on ESPNU.
P.S. ESPNU sucks azz in BR (picture and sound was horrible)

Wasnt talking about the option play, that was all Blue. I was referring to his bad game play throughout.

Yeah, the play calling was about what I've come to expect lately. It's not real impressive, and I can't for the life of me understand why you would, knowing how they struggle so mightily in the option, select to go with that play so deep in your own territory either. That play looked destined for failure the second the ball was snapped in my opinion.

But what does it say when our Tigers who have been lambasted in the national media and I guess by a good percentage of the fan base come out so flat and unimaginative? Especially on offence? You expect kind of a slow start with Les's teams but not 3 quarters

Man, its just Vanilla.... I got tired of seeing the same plays over and over. The Jefferson play action keeper, the end around to Shepard(which only worked once on that TD!). Very boring. It would be different if it was effective!

They have to stop running the option. Also I think JJ should not be running the ball so much those should be touches by RS or SR.
I love the aggressive play by the D. I feel like we haven't seen that at all since 07.
Team played for 60 mins that was good to see. That will be needed the later we get into the season.
Geaux tigers!!!

Man, I was just telling somebody this the other day. Its been awhile since we seen a Tiger in the backfield like the old days like Lavalais, Dorsey, Spears, Hill, etc.
Good to see Nevis step up and Mingo is a Beast, a FAST beast!

If I were Miles I would fire Crowton now and let Ensminger take over as interim OC for the remainder of the season. It is clear Crowton is a detriment to the team and after 3 years he damn sure can’t coach quarterbacks. Let’s see if Ensminger who is former quarterback and has been a quarterback coach and OC can get the quarterbacks playing better. He can’t be worse than Crowton at calling the plays.
That said the defense played pretty good tonight, but I don’t consider Vanderbilt to be a quality opponent.
I also thought RR, SR, RS, and TT all played well on offense, while JJ had a replay of the spring game.

Maybe, it seems just its just that channel. Last baseball season, I had the same problems. Every other channel works great. Cant complain though, at least I was able to watch the game

It's Les' Achilles IMO. He is FAR TOO committed to individuals. He should have clearly pulled the trigger on Crowton at the end of last year. I was shocked actually to see that he didn't. Well, not shocked really, but still couldn't believe he would let it continue when it was clear he wasn't the man for the job.
At this point, I wouldn't mind seeing Ensminger take over as interim OC, and he and Les could work together to make things happen in play calling, but you know LES... He is not about to do that to Crowton in the early part of this season. He will let this drag on to the end of the year and probably see if he can find Crowton a job elsewhere before finding his replacement.

What has changed in Crowton since they set the school record for scoring in '07? If Flynn really was that big of a difference, then couldn't you say it's the player, not the coach?
I agree that Crowton has to go by the way. Just asking.

Seems like he's a one hit wonder. If you look at his stats as a OC, he always does well in his 1st year as OC. Oregon and BYU had the top Offense in his 1st year there. Then the decline! I hear so many different rumors about Miles over ruling Crowton's play calling during the game, but in the 2nd half, it looks like Miles took over. I seen him on the sideline with what look like the laminate playbook cheatsheet!

I think Flynn truly was just that much better of a player, and he was far more mature than JJ is at present, by light years actually. Crowton walked into a fantastic situation in 07 with the players he had to work with. Now, we can see what he does without those players, and it isn't much really.

Even here at LSU!
I just saw that they have another thread about Miles taking over the playcalling in the 2nd half!
