Hey, wasn't holy cross a top ranked school preseason?

why yes they were... over curtis and south plaquemines...
now their two losses haven't proved much IMO. a lot of 3A teams lose to Slidell and Jesuit.
their record means they have something to prove, because if they lose this rivalry game, they'll have nothing to play for until mid-november, because even chalmette fans think they'll run the sorry N.O. public school 3A district.
but chalmette has not beaten HC since 2003, and has only won 4 times since 1982 in this rivalry.
since 2000 they've had the following second half meltdowns: 20-7 third quarter lead to 28-20 in 2000, 21-6 halftime lead to 24-21 in 2004, 0-0 halftime tie to 38-0 in 2006, 7-0 trailing at halftime to 42-0 in 2007, and of course the one that stings the most recent, 28-18 with 8 minutes left to a 46-28 loss last year.

The two losses for HC have been to 5A Slidell and 5A Jesuit, both games HC was up by a couple of scores in the second half....very young team this year for HC...but seems they have trouble stopping the run. Owl, what kind of RBs do you guys have this year?

Well, they managed to pass for 26 yards lasy night against HC, so if I were an opposing coach I would load up the box and force the issue...

james banks: 7.1 YPC, 8 TDs in two games. good speed but better strength, drags guys with him. was on Louisiana Football Magazine's "best of the rest"
donald harris: speed burner had a long TD run against EJ and last year dominated HC with three long KO returns totaling 185 yards. also plays at DB
johnquel jones: fullback had a nice TD run in the jamboree against Belle Chasse. also plays on defense
cody williams: WR has potential, but needs to be more consistent. hauled in the 42 yard bomb last night
craig sylvera: straight A QB is capable, but needs a little more help from WRs if we're gonna win in the state playoffs.
defense is led by rhett pritchard, two time all district, ruston pritchard his little but bigger brother, jermaine brisco, and sean esponge.
chanse riess is 12-12 on PATS and kicked a 44 yard FG in the jamboree

Ah...this dude I remember from last year...freaking unbeleivable returns last year...here's to a good game and a Holy Cross victory!

my prediction: HC can't stop the run (Jesuit guy went for 261), and that's what we do best. We can also throw it a bit, but we might not have to. CHALMETTE 42 HOLY CROSS 16 and it will feel like 2003 again

PLEASE BEAT HOLY CROSS!!!
McMain will be 2-1 going into district play after the Battle of Nashville today

let me just say we got f--ing screwed in front of the biggest crowd we've had since the hurricane.
we were down 28-10 midway through the 3rd, but we drove for a TD before the end of the quarter and got a 50 yard pick six (plus the two point conversion) midway through the 4th. we got all the momentum, the place is hyped, and we force a punt on 4th and 13 with 4:34 to go. no way we're not gonna tie or win it
now i gotta look at the game tape again when i can, but everyone on our side says our guy was blocked into the punter. it didn't even look that bad. i thought "5, running into the kicker, no biggie" but instead it's 15 and an automatic first down for roughing. the last time they punted before that, we hit the guy worse, no call.
a few first downs later, that was ballgame. after the last one, unsportsmanlike conduct on HC, so what happens? they get to kneel it 15 yards from where they were. big f-ing deal you jerks.
but let's get rational here. holy cross did alright. brenton bowman, a guy CLEAN has been hyping up, returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a TD. we thought we had him three different times, but he made us look silly.
i didn't think they could stop our running game, and they didn't stop james banks totally, but they contained him. "pookie" broke one before halftime, but he got caught from behind (he's a power runner) and we had to settle for a field goal. karl bartholomew, star of our 41-6 '03 annihilation, now a St. Bernard cop, was sitting by me and commented that he would have scored it...
craig sylvera was a little too inconsistent throwing the ball. he threw a nice 2 yard touchdown early in the 2nd quarter, and had a nice 1st down pass later on, but he sailed some and threw two first half picks. holy cross had three consecutive possesions start inside our territory and they eventually got a TD from it. they're a good team, so we couldn't do that. our d line dominated the 4th quarter, getting a few sacks. rhett pritchard got a 1st quarter INT, and we got a the pick six in the 4th, but a busted coverage led to the touchdown that made it 28-10.
all in all i'm wondering what it will take. early in the third i thought they'd bury us like in years past but we fought back. we can, we just have to now. wait 365 days or so
it doesn't matter because now four senior classes in a row will graduate from Chalmette without seeing a victory over HC. i'm not sure about what we have coming back, but we have a senior heavy team that was building toward this year. john ehret in three weeks...
