"'For all people who care about the university, this is a great moment of great sadness,' said William Friday, UNC President Emeritus. "We've gone 50 years without even the remotest allegation of wrongdoing at Chapel Hill."

LINK

What's the old saying, "You break the rule, you screw the school"? Well, not really an old saying, but...

The truth is that Chapel Hill has no one to blame but themselves for this one.

Being so close to this UNC scandal, as opening game opponents, I hope this serves as a great reminder to LSU players to keep themselves clean as a whistle as it pertains to agent contact and letting tutors write papers! Oh, what's that other old saying... "Hand your paper to the tutor, and you'll take one in the pooter"? Well, not really an old saying, but...

It really can't be put into words how embarrassing it is for UNC. They are very fine institution that loves basketball first, and they have let a football program smear their good name.

Both of my wife's maternal grandparents taught at UNC and I can tell you from experience there is a great deal of pride associated with that university.

UNC is a great academic institution. It is amazing how many college textbooks have been written or edited by UNC professors.

I remember how gracious their fans were a couple years ago when we lost to them in the NCAA's.

Butch Davis allowed that Miami-thug academics environment to permeate the atmosphere up there, and it resulted in the embarrassment of a superior academic institution.

Man, I'm glad that guy wasn't hired at LSU--and now, obviously never will be.

I always thought if you weren't cheating, your weren't trying hard enough. And by the way. If you don't think some of the stuff going at UNC doesn't go on at most other schools, you're fooling yourself.

I feel the same way about paying taxes.

Sure, some of this stuff happens at the best of schools. But is it as prevalent everywhere as it is in this particular case and does the coaching staff endorse or allow it to happen are the key questions.

I keep seeing post like this. If it IS happening at LSU, I would be embarrassed and disappointed and want whoever allowed it to happen to be fired. I would not like to have a Championship at the expense of honor on our team.
Maybe I am naive, but I believe that Les tries hard to maintain an honorable program. If you have definite evidence, or any one else has definite evidence that shows our program is corrupt, please bring it forward or shut up.

Amen. Believe it or not, there are actually decent and honest people that try to do things the right way.

Listen, small stuff happens everywhere. You get notes from a classmate, look at old tests from the teachers, ask someone to write a paper for you and pay em $20 or some small bullshite like that.

But what doesn't happen everywhere is one tudor/cheater writing papers for the whole team, and getting cash for it by getting paid by the university and THE HEAD COACH. THen hangin with his son at his home while getting paid and all these people acting like Davis knew nothing about her doing the players work.!

If you've ever been in a college locker room, thletic dorm, or a "study hall" for players, you know everyone talks ALOT and tells everyone almost everything about someone like this who works for the coach and does your work for you!

Are you kidding me, hell yeah it goes on alot. I have to give props to the ones that didn't give in to teh scheme, cause I promise there are plenty who said NO and did it themselves. (or had their girlfreinds do it!)

I'll bet there are hundreds of athletes across the country sweating when they heard what these guys are busted for.

NOTE: none of this happens if the assholes who went to the agents party don't do that!

I have a question about this and maybe someone will now the answer.

If the players were allowing a tutor to write the paper for them wouldn't that constitute academic fraud and require that they be expelled from the university instead of just suspended from the football team?

I mean they are attending college and the academics are suppose to be the primary goal of attending a univeristy.

I, for one, am in total shock that a college student would get help writing papers. Not since Thornton Mellon's brief tenure in college hve I seen student behavior as heinous as this!

It's early on a Saturday and you are probably suffering from all those Old Milwaukee Ultra Lights you had last night, so I'll be easy on you.
The infractions are not just for getting help. Read up on what happened, or maybe get someone who can read to do it for you. Then post again.

Now go out and have a GREAT day.

Right... What the University is concerned about, and damn well should be, is a USC "Loss of Institutional Control" Violation with suspension frombowls in the future, etc. If this pans out the way it is going, they are in deep trouble. Reggie Bush's f-up was only 1 player involved. This could be multiple as it is pointing towards which would make the penalty a lot worse.

UC. Not to sound pessimistic here. I am concerned about the investigation that is pending on us... As you know, all of those coaches "bend the rules" as far as they can unless you are a Fla and have a name for yourself as far as recruiting. Don't call it cheating. Call it "challenging the system".

I know if I was caught cheating on an exam with 15 of my buddies we'd all get booted out of school.

Good point.

At a minimum a suspension. Maybe someone can look at the NC website and see what their handbook says on it. I looked for their handbook for a few minutes. I guess they took it off-line...
