That's weird. So they have 3 months (not counting football season) to make up their minds?

Senior year.

Pretty dumb rule if you ask me...

I wonder what they are trying to accomplish by this rule?

Doesn't really matter, any recruit a program wants, they're going to take his commitment early until the official offer...

About the only thing this does is dick recruits because a program can now lie and say we never officially offered?

That's what I'm saying. This really only hurts recruits. If offers come in on August 1, they're already in the season. No time to think about their decision, no time to visit schools that actually offer. Seems kind of dumb.

This is pointless. Coaches will still offer kids verbally and kids will accept. The written offers will go out on August 1st and signing day will be the first week of February.

The coaches that work hard at recruiting and have early Junior camps will still be ahead of the coaches that don't. This is a frivolous attempt by the NCAA to slow down the recruiting big dogs and create a level playing field but it really does nothing.

If they really wanted to slow down the recruiting calendar, they would not let kids attend "on campus" camps until the summer before their senior year. LSU had it's first junior day for the class of 2011 on January 9th 2010 before the 2010 class officially signed in February of 2010 and already had 7 verbal commitments after this early junior camp.

This new rule won't change anything... Junior recruits will still receive (verbal) offers and give (verbal) commitments early, just as they have been doing in the current recruiting climate.

I would just like to read an explanation from them on this rule. :Maybe there isn't a legitimate reason and maybe there is. I just can't understand it. It seems almost pointless.
