1) They run too wide from the center position (more like a roll out). The option needs to be run down the line of scrimmage on order to create enough space between the QB and RB so that it is impossible for defensive player to attack both.

2) In association with #1, our QBs run too close to the running back allowing one defender to attack both.

3) Neither QB attacks the DE (or whoever is the first defender) and makes him commit to the tackle. This allows the first defender to attack the RB instead of the QB.

Here is a good example of problems #2 and #3 when our QBs run the option

1:25 mark

Notice how close Lee is to the RB and how he pitches long before the DE commits to him. This allows the DE to make the play on the RB.

Jefferson does the exact same thing.
