Is Ariza CP3's Pippen?

Reading Pippen's comments on the HOF got me thinking about what we are really looking for in a #2 for CP3. We all keep talking about Carmelo, but is a prolific scorer that doesn't play much defense really what the team needs?

I dont think Ariza can be a #2.
Everyone will agree with this post btw.
eta: Also I want Melo.
Oh, but just cuz I didnt hear/see them, what were Pippens comments?

well for one CP3 is not Jordan.
To answer your question though no hes not and you really do need another star. NBA is a superstar driven league which is why the teams with 2+ stars on their starting 5 win championships. Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Pistons etc...
Trevor Ariza is exactly what a team with a couple of stars needs but will not be the #2 guy on a championship team ever IMO. Pretty sure that is never what we expected out of him here.
ETA: I agree with dolla FWIW. You need another star to go along with him to win a championship

Hmmmm. What "superstar" will be available besides Melo? By the way, I do think you need two great players or superstars on a championship team.

It wasn't really his comments but this comment on him from the article

For the most part, Pippen embraced his status as Jordan's integral running mate.

So, but if we did get melo.... would melo be #1 or #2?
Posted on 8/13/10 at 1:31 pm to TigerinATL
He is really the only one of your posibilities to fill that role immedietly. I can't really think of anyone other than Howard in 2012 who will be a free agent that could provide that kind of impact soon. This last off season would have been a better time to fill that role if the Hornets were going to do it. Rockets are going the other way and trying to build a team out of a shite load of depth but that won't win a championship either. Too many good teams in this league and good players to build a team off of one superstar and 11 talented guys. Teams like Miami, LA, or Boston will eat that shite up all day.

That's kind of what I'm trying to get at. Who is the right kind of star to pair with Paul. Pippen was a jack of all trades that could be effective playing off ball and he often created for himself by doing the dirty work of rebounding and defending.

Can you name the last team to win one that didn't have at least two?

#1 scoring option but #2 superstar. As long as CP3 is in NO and still preforming he won't be replaced at that role

Super team theory is very real. You need at least 2 future HOFers to contend. The 2003 Pistons are the only anomaly in the last 30+ years. I'm just trying to look for other options because I'm not sure we can land Carmelo, and if we do I'm wondering how good of a fit he will be.

Pistons starting 5 were all all stars.
Posted on 8/13/10 at 1:45 pm to TEXASTIGER22
None were superstars, Billups was the closest.

Yeah, they're the anomaly. Seems like a super star and a future Hall of Famer is the minimum. LINK
Looks like Melo is our best option so I guess Demps better go get him and hope he's a good fit.

Durring that time they were all extremly close, none better than the other. Ben was the most overhyped as an overall player but was a bad arse in that system. They were in a lot of ways the perfect team so they were each hyped as semi superstars. I don't think there will ever be an NBA all-star game again where 5 guys from the same team are playing at the same time.
