I guess he felt like some people would think trading a 2 time all star for a potential future all star was odd.

It is odd, because it would never happen. Gasol is 25 with his best years in front of him at a position that is much more coveted than PF, while West is 29 with his best ball behind him.
If I were Dell Demps and Chris Wallace called me to offer Gasol for West I'd think it was a prank and hang up.
