In Covingington....
Anybody know if it's good?

We're getting up to go do beignets at Cafe Dumonde in the a.m., then spending the heat of the day at the Aquarium, then we were thinking about hitting up Jerk's on the way home...

I just want to make sure it's not a crappy attempt at Jamaican food, or a Joe's Crap Shack type place...

Their Story

Ate there about 2 months ago and I wasn't expecting much but it actually surprised me. It's kind of cheesey and reminded me of a chain, but I was impressed and would go back again. I think the prices are pretty fair.

Wife and I had the pork and shrimp tacos, pretty pleased with both.

i understand that Greg Reggio was the consultant behind the concept. i don't think he has an ownership, just developed it for the owners.

Went once, the food was meh. Had shrimp tacos served with island rice and black beans. Shrimp were chopped up (hate that) and served in a crispy taco shell(weird). The beans and rice were awful. Nice place and very inviting. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I would go again and try a sammich or something else.

Let us know what you get.

Drove over to Covington just to check it out one day. I thought they did a nice job with the overall theme and the food that I had was good. It is a fun little stop when you are in a margarita or red stripe mood....

Cool little joint family friendly and looks like it would be a nice place for the grown-ups to have a drink or two, before 'going out.'

We got the Pork Roti (wrap)
Stuffed with jerk pork, a home-made guacamole spread that had dashes of mango and red and white pepper (along with ‘other’ seasonings) on it, some dices of tomato and cucumbers.

It was really delicious, and had just the right amount of seasoning.

I go a side of gallo pinto, which I thought were very good.
Basically it was just black beans and wild rice.
These also had the just the right balance of spiciness and a touch of sweetness.

My wife ordered a side of fried plantains, and she said they were the best she’s had in a long time.
The hand cut sweet potato fries (wedges) must have been very good, cause my wife and 2 girls ate them up before the waitress could get them set on the table good!!

Over all I’d say it was really good, and a perfect meal for a hot summers day!
