Credit card with hotel points or frequent flyer miles

I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling over the next six months for weddings and for work, and was looking into getting a credit card that offers frequent flyer miles or points for hotels. How does this work (ie: do I need to book my flights and hotels on that card, etc.) and which card is the best for this?

I have a Delta AMEX.
Although I've heard great things about the SPG AMEX and the CO Mastercard.

Google "far wallet credit card thread" . They have a list of cards broken down by reward categories. You should be able make a list of cards to begin the search for what card you want to use.

Hilton Honors AMEX and its not even close. I've had it for just over a year and I just got back from a 10 day trip without paying for a single night. The rewards add up QUICK.

According to the folks at FlyerTalk the Starwood AMEX is ranked the best in terms of flexibility and rewards use. Plus customer service.
Worth taking a look at.

I think the general concensus is AMEX + whatever affiliation is most useful to you.
I have the Hilton AMEX and I like it.

The things you need to watch carefully on these cards is 1) make sure there's no annual fee and 2) the interest rates are usually high (no issue if you pay the balance off each month, problem if you keep a balance).
Otherwise, you would do well to get a low rate credit card (usually a credit union has good deals) then join programs like AAdvantage Dining or HHonors Dining and rack up points and miles using your card.
