ELY high on Miles & Crowton

Coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Gary Crowton stand out at LSU, not only as coaches but as friends who "won't football-talk me to death," Ely said.
Coach Weiner will be a big influence on Ely:
quote:
When Ely returns home from the Elite 11 later this week he plans to sit down with Plant coach Robert Weiner and his family to discuss his college plans. He'll lean heavily on Weiner, who coached Marve and Murray, dealt with their busy recruitments and takes the Plant quarterback tradition seriously as well.
Like he was with Marve and Murray, Weiner will be by Ely's side throughout the decision-making process. He's been there before and is close with Ely, who said he listens to Weiner's opinions and will be a big factor when it comes down to his commitment.
"I listen to him all the time," Ely said. "He's pretty much my guidance through this whole thing and I trust him because he's been through this before. All of his judgments and all he has to say I listen to and I get my opinions from him."

Ely impressing at Elite 11:
quote:
Phillip Ely (Tampa, Fla./Plant) is a fundamentally sound, live-armed QB that has been well coached, understands the drill circuit and is at his best when he gets the ball out quickly. He has gotten bigger but is still not overly tall. He worked out well, and if he chooses a school that runs a similar offense to the one he runs at Plant, he could have a lot of success at the next level. He has good zip, throws well on the move and is excellent in the short-to-intermediate passing game.

Looks like he is pretty open with about four schools.
What offense do they run at Plant? Hopefully, multiple.

Hopefully we get this kid, I don't really care about his measurables that much, it sounds like he is well rounded.

Ely plays in the shotgun but Plant isn't just a passing offense. They gained 2067 yards passing and 2945 rushing last year.
He is used to playing with good running backs-Wilder gained 858 yards last year and T.J. Glover gained 914 yards.

Great highlights! Definitely a spread offense. What High School kids take snaps under center anymore?
He is definitely on the small side. But I like the fact that he is a winner and has intangibles. I bet he keeps getting bigger too.

plant is the evangel of florida. that could be good or bad.

there are defiantely concerns about Ely being a "system" quarterback.
Him making such a great impression with his physical abilities at all of the camps/combines makes me think he can be successful at LSU.
He has worked hard to get bigger and stronger.
His best atributes are his acuracy and his poise, plus he can scrammble a little bit to keep a play alive.

this can only be good. he must have good coaching and fundamentals following marve and murray. maybe crowton won't have to do to much.
thats a good thing.

Ope we get him in 2015 he can be number 9. It'll keep the pattern going when we go to the mnc

i'd def. take my chances. i was just pointing out the history of plant football. marve is a really talented qb who needs to get his head on straight. i think aaron murray will be a star at uga. hopefully we can bring in ely. those system kids usually have a good grasp on scheme, quick reads, etc.

What is Weiner's history with LSU, Miles?

don't know if they have crossed paths before but Coach Weiner is beloved by his players and he has stood up for them too. He took a lot of flack from Florida fans when Orson Charles and the Georgia quarterback, Aaron went out of state.

Awaits for someone to say, "I told you Miles/Crowton knew nothing about Football"...

Plant plays a bunch of nobody schools. They may have a lot of rushing yards but it is an offense like the gators . We all have seen how good Marve and Murray have been in college . Why would Ely be any better ? he is slower than Marve and has a weaker arm then Murray . Yeah for US

I'd LOVE to know how since he is a redshirt freshman that hasn't played in a game.

well even if he is less than those ely alums, hes still the best option we have at this point
marve is going to tear it up this year at purdue, he would have been good at miami too but was forced out by harris
