Ran into a guy from Detroit Michigan several days ago while on vacation in Gatlinburg.
He was out of work, all of his friends and family were out of work and he was in town living in a tent with his fiance looking for work and when I told him I was from Louisiana the dude actually fealt sorry for me and told me that the rest of the nation is praying for us.

Damn. Can't believe he was so concerned.
Not to make light of what alot of people in our state are going through, but I know alot of people have to be making a killing off of this. I know of two people that are working down there tnat will be making what amounts to $130K a year just playing like a supervisor for a while.
Know of another friend who has a camp not anywhere near the coast that he rents out from time to time. Someone just signed a contract a few months ago for minimum six month rental with two months up front.
I would imagine the camp owners and those little marina owners with the motels are doing very well with this.

I had a brat & a beer at a little restaurant in Central Park (NYC) last weekend. The waiter seemed genuinely concerned about the oil spill, but was also suspicious of media reports. He wanted to know "what was REALLY going on?"

Was he looking for work in Gatlinburg? I'm sure that wasn't there for vacation.

Seemed pretty cool guy.
I gave him and his fiance $20.
He didn't even ask for any money after talking with him for 15 minutes or so.

the workers are DESTROYING the camps.
all the money that the owners are making will be used to fix the camps after this. its really sad how they can care less
