I have a buddy that talked with one of the companies that are looking for people and they said that they wont hire anyone unless they have taken the course. I called the bp hotline to find out where to take the class for him and they said that the company doing the contracting has to sponsor you and pay for the course and that the company giving the course wont even take you unless you are sponsored by one of the contractors. I spoke with an indian woman on the bp hotline so I wasnt sure if she knew what she was talking about.

There's a free 4 hr class at Alford Services in Houma. It's offered every weekday ~8am.

Not all companies require this to be hired. I've got 2 buddies who took the 4 hour course, got hired, then went back for more training before going to work.

Most of them are, it just depends on what you are hired for. If you are going to be working directly in the contaminated areas they are making most people take the Hazwop classes, if you are assigned to loading and unloading trucks/boats or other positions away from the oil then you are just required to take the 4 hour classes.
