I criticize Les as much as the next guy (I really don't like him), but who are some options?

Since this list is supposed to be realistic:
no John Gruden, Jack Del Rio, Lord Saban, Mike Ditka, Bill Parcels , Ghost of Vince Lombardi....

Gary Patterson is not leaving TCU after coaching there for 84 years. Brian Kelly's not leaving ND.

Realistically, I say:
B. Petrino

uhhh... after that we get into coordinators.

anyone?

Butch Davis
maybe Bo Pelini

I like the Butch Davis idea....think he would be a possibility. Other may be Harbaugh

I'm shocked someone didn't already pick him up.

Would that style translate to LSU? I think yes.

Pelini is very likely if it was in the next couple of years. If it is 4-5 years from now....really feel like Dooley will turn out to be an excellent coach if UGA does not scoop him up first.

not that i want this to happen but Gus Malzahn appears to know how to coach offense, something LSU needs...

I like Butch Davis. UNC has what, 7 NFL draft prospects on defense?

But it's not like we have a complete listing of available coaches and their resumes, at least I don't.

I can't see him leaving TN for any team other than Georgia.

Problem is, that after the very small handful of elites in college football, you are taking some great risks in making a change, and bringing someone else in. Miles has some faults, but lets wait until this next season before deciding who is worth the risk.

I agree and that was kinda' my point.

We should KNOW who we want and can get b/f letting Les go. Firing him, then hoping for the best available can really set back our program. See Curly Hallman

And yes, for me it is a foregone conclusion that Miles will be gone at the end of next season.

What makes anyone think Miles is a better coach than ANY coach in division I? I'm not saying he isn't solid. He's a great recruiter, and a solid Christian morally strong man, but why does that equate to a great coach? It simply does not and his gametime decisions reflect a less than great track record FOR THE AMOUNT HE IS BEING PAID.
Saban left us quick, so I haven't a clue who was available and better at that crucial time, but as far as in game coaching, there are probably 50 coaches that would have made better decisions in a lot of circumstances, whether they worked for us or not.

The coaching changes, hires, non hires, dual d co's, keeping Crowton, etc is what Les Miles absolutely sucks at doing.

So my answer is easy, any head coach at a D I program that was being run cleanly and was achieving above what was expected at the school they were at.

ANd even with all that, we still may not have won the last NC.

Butch Davis, the Stanford coach, the Washington coach, Rodriguez, Petrino (who I hate), former Texas Tech coach, would all be better than Miles. (sorry can't remember all of their names right now)
