Got a few friends who are military doing security type stuff in Venice. I'm not military or anything but have a couple college degrees.

A company call Swift is the primary vendor to BP, might want to check with them.

Checked Swift's site and found a couple of jobs in Houma LINK
They close after this weekend, so better apply quick.
It seems like jobs are hard to find down there...you would think they would be advertising like crazy all over the coast.

A couple of my buddies, who have college degrees, just got jobs down there basically doing office work. Said they work 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week, banking over $20/hr. Sorry don't know how they got it, just letting you know there definitely is money to be made.

I've fallen on some hard times but dont want to quit my current job for a temp job that'll only last 6 months.

These operations will last much longer than 6 months. I'm working in Cocodrie which is a smaller operation than Venice and Grand Isle but they're still talking about being here for at least 2 years.

ETA: mud, most of these labor companies will work you seven days a week no less. I worked 18 days straight then took two days off. I try to work a month without taking a day off. The money is way too good.
Whenever I take off all I can think of is I just lost $420.
