Every good or great LSU team in the recent past had a strength or an identity based on a dominant position or player. For the longest time WR (05 and 06) and DL (pretty much any year but the last 2) used to be what we planned the game around.

Thinking about 2010, can't think of what the strength is. Peterson is great but you need two elite corners to really call it an overall strength. The point is, the team needs to find an identity in the first few games of the season. Right now, I don't see one.

Gonna guess the "bend but don't break" defense.

I would say our WR should be great. IF we can have a qb who can get them the ball

I agree with Tru but not just the back 7. i think our DL is going to suprise some people with our big uglies in the middle to stop the run and our fast ends around the corner on pass rushes. so im gonna go with our D as our strength next year

We haven't' had a compelling identity for the LSU football team since 2007.

In June 2006, we knew Bowe, Davis and JR would be our strength that season. In June 2007, people were already talking about Glen Dorsey and another great LSU defense. It is possible to guage the team's strength in the offseason.

Meh. A lot of people still had no faith in JR after the '05 season. A LOT.

And neither wound up even being a strength toward the end of the year, much less the identity. I think the identity of that team was Jacob Hester on 4th down, Matt Flynn in the clutch, Lesticles, and a team of destiny, etc...none of which could have known in June of that year.

I agree with you that this team--and all championship teams--will need an identity, I just don't agree that not knowing exactly what it is on June 30th is any sort of negative thing.

I think our rushing game is really going to heat up and we are going to be able to manage the game(miles?) clock

Linebackers.

To the "bend but don't break" whiners: That happens when Chavis has a small d-line. It should be much better this year.

Linebackers.

Well, our linebackers and secondary were the strength of the team last season. In fact, it often seemed as though our linebackers were the real d-line for the team. As for this year, I have no idea what their identity will be. Probably more defense than offense I guess.
