I wouldn't waste a $1 in a Redbox on it.

Looks like another freaking Wild Wild West.
Why do they have to keep adding technology that did not exist to western themes?

The AV Club gave it an F. Now I might go see it just to see a true masterpiece of crap.

To bring in people who would never go see an actual western

Then don't make a movie of Hex. Write a new story and stick that crap in it.
Or even easier, don't make a western.
Or if you do, don't spend so damn much money on it that you need to ruin it with explosions and anachronistic crap.

Chud gave it a 2 out of 10 and gave it a pretty funny review.
Said its not even so bad you can laugh at it. Just really bad.

This reviewer said, "The only people who deserve to see Jonah Hex are Hitler and the CEO of British Petroleum."

Rotten Tomatos gave it 10% earlier today.

I don't see anything wrong with that if it's used correctly. Movies are supposed to stimulate the imagination. Unfortunately, I can't think of a single movie that has done it effectively.

Couldn't disagree more. If you are making a western stick too it. With good writing, acting and directing you don't need props.
I don't even understand why they paid for the rights to Hex, then added a supernatural element and anachronistic crap. Really would have been cheaper to just start from scratch. Not like Jonah Hex has some massive following.

I actually like the Wild Wild West TV series

I don't think a movie of any kind should be bound by anything except the imagination. But this is coming from someone who has seen some really weird and obscure stuff. Agree to disagree I guess

Then don't label it as a western. To be honest I haven't seen it called a western in any of it's promotional material. Call it fiction. It's a fictional story set in a world of the writer's imagination. Does that make the story any better? Nope, but it does help prevent preconceived ideas about what it SHOULD be.

That's a ridiculous opinion.
Every movie should be judged on its own merits and not bound by any preconceived "genre" conventions.
You can have a fantasy picture set in 1870 Wild West. You can have a romance set in space. Who cares?
You take the world that is presented to you and judge the film based on its quality.

Can any of you read? I stated that if they wanted to go in that direction they should have started from scratch.
They didn't. They bought an established story in Jonah Hex which is a western.
They then added a pile of shite into it. If they wanted to make an anachronistic shitfest they should have written their own story.
Sure seems like the critics agree it is a steaming pile of crap.
I guess all of you would have been happy to see Aliens and Spaceships in Lord Of The Rings.

All I said was they couldn't read, which is true.
I actually liked Wild Wild West the series but the series did not go over the top like the movie.
I simply was attempting to make the point that if you buy an ESTABLISHED western, then don't go sticking supernatural and anachronistic crap in it.
This is no different than if they had stuck laser rifles and triple breasted alien whores in 3:10 to Yuma. Although alien whores are always ok.
