I'm going to say True.

This is the SEC and in this conference defense wins championships. Chavis' defense is soft and he has never really shown that he can beat a Saban or Meyer lead team with his defense or an evenly matched Spurrier team. I just think his defense may keep us in games, but will not win us games and will not win us a championship. I think we will be UTenn of the 2000's with Chavis' defense.

Anyone think any differently?

True or False?

I say true but it has nothing to do with Chavis. We'll never win another championship while Miles is here, and when he goes, the new coach will probably bring in his own DC.

Wasn't Chavis the DC for the Tennessee national title team in the late 1990s?

ETA - The answer is yes. Google is my friend. And the year was 1998.

Proven false.

LSU won a national title in 2007 with a defense that was worse than 2009 in almost every category. Chavis has already won a national title with his defense.

the d played well enough to win 11-12 games last year if the offense could consistently put together longer drives. The offense didn't even have to score a ton, just move the ball, eat some clock, and change the field position. Too many 3 and outs

According to some on this board, LSU will never win another/(a) National Championship as long as Miles is the HC of football, Mainieri is the HC of baseball, Johnson is the HC of basketball, & so on. Guess the AD should just pack it in & forget about sports. Lets donate all the sports revenue to the academic side of the school, maybe we can learn up somebody real good who can stop the leak in the gulf & then all of Louisiana's problems will be taken care of.

Gotta love the optimism of this fanbase!

Are you really worrying about the defense this much??? Consider your intelligence and integrity in question

From his LSU Bio:

"Some of the highlights during his career with the Vols include leading the SEC in yards allowed (236.6) and scoring (14.3) in 1996; two years later during their national championship run, the Vols ranked No. 2 in the SEC in total yards allowed, passing and rushing yards allowed and scoring defense.

Tennessee was first in the SEC in rushing yards allowed in both 2000 and 2001, holding opponents to 74.3 and 85.3 yards, respectively. The Vols again led the SEC in rushing defense in 2005, limiting opponents to 82.5 yards a contest. Since the 1995 season, only Florida has led the SEC in rushing defense more times (4) than Tennessee (3).

Despite a 5-7 mark in 2008, Tennessee’s defense was not only among the best in the SEC, but also one of the top units in the country. The Vols ranked No. 2 in the SEC and No. 3 in the nation in total defense, allowing 263.5 yards per game. The Vols were also No. 2 in the league and No. 4 in the nation in pass defense with 160.4 yards per contest."

Doesn't sound all that bad to me, but each to our own.

I'm not a huge Chavis fan, but he is the least of our problems.
Fixing our suckass offense is.

No DC is ever good enough for LSU fans. People accused Pelini of driving our 'fast' and 'aggressive' D into the ground when really, we would pay to get that D back today. Pelini then proceeded to Nebraska and built a great D there as well.
